A recent article published by moneysavingexpert.com, discusses the answer to all the questions which the British public might have when it comes to making their homes more energy efficient.

The Green Deal

This is a great article because it gives a full overview which will help the public understand what the Green Deal is about and how effective this could be if there were more households partaking.

Starting with one home is another step closer to saving energy, the Green Deal gives special ‘loans’ or grants to improve your home to cut energy bills. No matter what income you are on you can apply for this loan.

We look at some of the top tips mentioned by moneysavingexpert.com:

  • Whether you are property owner or a tenant in a rented property, you can borrow money for various different improvements, for example, installation of cavity wall or loft insulation.
  • Get an assessment – assessors can be found here. They will point out what needs improving.
  • The loan is attached to the home and not the person, if you decide to move on the loan stays attached to that property and becomes the next owner’s responsibility.
  • You pay back only what you’re predicted to save on bills each month, so there’s no NET cost.
  • Repayments are spread over a long term and you will be repaying through your energy bill.
  • You only have to repay what you’re predicted to save on your energy bills each month.
  • If you are looking at making use of the Green Deal, act fast, the Government is keen to get the Green Deal running, so has put £125 million into cash back for first adopters.
